Yom Kippur Party

Yom Kipper or the day of Atonement, is the holiest holiday of the Jewish year. It is celebrated with a day of rigorous fasting and repentance. It is a culmination of the Days of Awe or Days of Penitence, the ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kipper. Continual services are held in the synagogue starting the evening before continuing throughout the day. The most devout and Orthodox Jews will stand during this entire period even all night as a symbol of their devotion. The caddish is done to honor those who have passed and to break the fast the whole family and friends gather and have a feast and party. This feast consists of whatever foods the family enjoys and sometimes is from the deli. It is a time of celebration and a joyous event. In days of yore, everyone went dancing later to continue the party spirit!
