Thanksgiving Party

Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day is an annual one day holiday to give thanks to God for the things he has given one at the end of the harvest season. In the United States Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thurs of November. In Canada it is celebrated on the 2nd Monday in October.

In the United States certain kinds of foods are tradtionally served at Thanksgiving meals. First and foremost, Turkey is usually the featured item on any turkey feast table (sometimes called Thanksgiving sometimes called Turkey Day). Stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn, yams and pumpkin pie are commonly associated with the Thanksgiving dinner. All these dishes except for yams are native to America and were later introduced to Europeans.

The early settlers of Plymouth Colony were particularly thankfull to Squanto , the native American who taught them how to catch eel, grow corn and who served as an inerpreter for them . Without him they may not have survived in the new world. These settlers later came to be called "Pilgrims." They set aside a day to celebrate at Plymouth after their first harvest in 1621. Thanksgiving is a festive time of year and has come to be known as a time when families get together to feast and give thanks for the blessings in their lives.
