Mardi Gras Party

Mardi Gras (french for "fat tueday") is the day before Ash Wednesday and is also called Shrove Tuesday or "Pancake Day". It is a celebration that is held just before the beginning of the Christian liturgical season of lent. Cities most famous for their Mardi Gras Celebrations include: New Orleans, Mobile, Rio de Janeiro, San Paulo, Venice, Mazatlan and Salvador de Bahia.

The last day of Mardi Gras is a Carnival and celebrated with lots of music, good food, bright colors, the "samba" dance, costumes and street parades. In the 1800's Mardi Gras Carnivals became an annual event highlighted by lavish balls, masked spectacles. Some were small parties, other were raucous public affairs!

New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration draws hundreds of thousands of tourists to the city in addition to the celebrating locals. Most tourists can be found in the French Quarter, especially on Bourbon Street where street parties and masked party goers celebrate till the crack of dawn. The tradition of throwing beads has long been associated with the party atmosphere of Mardi Gras and Bourbon Street.
